3-Legged Dog is an organization focused on the creation of new experimental interdisciplinary work, with an emphasis on large scale multi-media production. Our tradition is one in which the primary creative artists acts as a writer/designer and director guiding the overall vision of their work from inception to opening in a process that is a “led collaboration.”  We believe it is imperative to have a comprehensive visual/sensual world that originates organically during the writing process which insures all of the elements of a production are fully integrated.

We have started our vigorous design process for “Rods and Cables.”  As soon as the design team was put in place (including video, lighting, sound, music composition, costumes, set, and specialty props) we started weekly production meetings for an intensive 5 week design process with the goal of having the entire design on paper by December 17th.  We work in a show-and-tell production meeting model.  Starting with the script, each designer brings in initial conceptual drawings, research pictures, and new ideas to show the design team.  This generates a really exciting creative process where the designers pitch new ideas to each other.  As the weeks draw on, decisions are made, the designs are flushed out, and eventually the paperwork for each design is produced.  Production stage manager, Julia Funk, keeps the team on track by putting in place deadlines with specific weekly goals.  The director, Allison Keating, keeps the team focused on the aesthetic theme of the play so that each design is integrated into the larger picture seamlessly.
